Introducing Tiki Tuesday

We've recently decided to share with you one of our new favorite excursions, Tiki Tuesday!  And how better to present these drinks than on our leather coasters.

As a big fan of all things Tiki, we took it upon ourselves not to just visit local Tiki bars in Southern California, but also craft some of these delicious cocktails we've come to love.  We first started out with the Mai Tai...

Mai Tai Recipe:

  • 2oz Blended lightly aged rum
  • .75 oz fresh lime juice
  • .5 oz dry curaçao
  • .25 oz simple syrup
  • .25 oz orgeat

Combine ingredients in a shaker tin, fill tin with crushed ice and a few larger cubes to mix, shake, and then pour directly into your favorite tiki mug or Double Old Fashioned glass.

Daiquiri No. 1 Recipe:

  • 2 oz blended lightly aged rum
  • .75 oz fresh lime juice
  • .5 oz simple syrup

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker, add ice, shake, and double strain into your favorite coupe glass.

Grog Recipe:

  • 2 oz blended lightly aged rum
  • .5 oz fresh lime juice
  • .5 oz simple syrup

Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker and fill with crushed/cubed iced, shake, and strain into a double old fashioned glass filled with ice.

We won't go into the history of these drinks or the specific parts of the recipes here.  For that, we recommend you check out the great book by Smuggler's Cove - Exotic Cocktails, Rum, and the Cult of Tiki by Martin Cate with Rebecca Cate.  This in depth book will have you enthralled by the story of Tiki culture and history, and includes over 100 drink recipes, which we've loosely described above.  To learn more about Smuggler's Cove: http://www.smugglerscovesf.com

We hope you've enjoyed this post and be sure to check out our Leather Coaster sets.  When do do craft your own delicious tiki cocktails, you'll want to protect your surfaces and display your Tiki drinks right!
