Inexpensive Lighting Equipment for Product Photography

I am not a photographer by trade, but I went to film school and at one point wanted to be a cinematographer in the film industry.  In my opinion, natural light is the best source of lighting you can use, but when photographing product using some lights can make your products pop!

I'm still getting the hang of this new Neewer 480 LED light I purchased recently, and I'm sure I will need to experiment with it a ton more to get the best lighting and desired look for my product.

As you can see, I ended up going with strategic light bouncing, using poster boards for various purposes.  The poster board on the left has a black on the back and white on the front.  I discovered just using the light itself directly on the product was extremely harsh, even when backing off the dial on the either the blue or yellow knob for cool or warm tones.  It just created some harsh shadows.  By bouncing the light, I was able to get some nice soft lighting spread across the scene.  The black bounce on the right is acting as a sort of negative fill light, for added moody-ness and provide a contrast without some harsh shadows.  Here's the result...

I took several other shots that I am somewhat pleased with.  More experimentation is needed, however I was happy to get the shots I did.
